What is Pierce's Disease?

Pierce's Disease is a bacterial infection, which is spread by bugs that feed on grapevines, particularly the "glassy winged sharpshooter." Grapevines that become infected with PD can quickly become sick and die.

  • Abstract: This report gives an overview of the project. The goal of this project is to isolate a collection of viruses (phages) that can infect and replicate in X. fastidiosa (Xf). This collection will then be screened to identify phage exhibiting useful biological properties.
