What is Pierce's Disease?

Pierce's Disease is a bacterial infection, which is spread by bugs that feed on grapevines, particularly the "glassy winged sharpshooter." Grapevines that become infected with PD can quickly become sick and die.

  • Abstract: Search for egg parasitoids of proconiine sharpshooters (Hemiptera: Clypeorrhyncha: Cicadellidae: Cicadellinae: Proconiini) in central and eastern USA during 2003 and 2004 resulted in rearings of several species of Mymaridae and Trichogrammatidae (Hymenoptera) (Table 1). Cultures of some species, notably of Anagrus epos Girault, were established at UCR quarantine.
