What is Pierce's Disease?

Pierce's Disease is a bacterial infection, which is spread by bugs that feed on grapevines, particularly the "glassy winged sharpshooter." Grapevines that become infected with PD can quickly become sick and die.

UNDERSTANDING GLASSY-WINGED SHARPSHOOTER FEEDING: GENE EXPRESSION IN GLASSY-WINGED SHARPSHOOTER SALIVARY GLANDS AND MIDGUTS

  • Abstract: To better understand the dynamics of sharpshooter feeding, a gene expression library was made from specific tissues isolated from adult glassy-winged sharpshooter, GWSS, (Homalodisca coagulata) salivary glands and midguts. The putative proteins identified from these tissues are listed in the following table:GWSS Salivary Gland library.
