What is Pierce's Disease?

Pierce's Disease is a bacterial infection, which is spread by bugs that feed on grapevines, particularly the "glassy winged sharpshooter." Grapevines that become infected with PD can quickly become sick and die.

PD/GWSS Board Now Accepting Research and Outreach Proposals


The PD/GWSS Board is now accepting proposals especially on Pierce’s disease; its vectors including the glassy-winged sharpshooter; grapevine red blotch disease; grapevine leafroll disease; mealybugs; and also fanleaf disease; spotted lanternfly; and brown-marmorated stink bug.

Applications are due January 31, 2026.
